Nevada state business license, annual list and local licensing
The state annual list and state business license are separate from city or county licensing.
Nevada entities file an annual list and maintain a state business license with the Secretary of State. For LLCs, the list is normally due by the end of the anniversary month of formation. Check the Secretary of State for exceptions and the current filing process.
Local licensing is a separate step. A Las Vegas mailing address may actually be in unincorporated Clark County rather than inside the City of Las Vegas. The right licensing office depends on where you actually operate and what activity you perform.
Zoning, home-occupation rules and profession-specific permits can also apply. A private mailbox (PMB) address alone does not decide your operating location.
Checklist
- Confirm the physical place where work is performed
- Look up whether that address is in a city or unincorporated county
- Check activity-specific and home-occupation rules
- Calendar the annual list deadline
Common misconceptions
- Myth: My state business license covers my city or county license.
- Reality: State and local licensing are separate; you may need both.
